Each season has its charm - fall is here! The contemplative art of Ikebana or Kado, Japanese flower arranging, brings together many elements so that we can have a more direct experience of our sense perceptions. The practice cultivates an overall mindfulness/awareness, and each arrangement becomes a reflection of our authentic expression. Workshop class will present the basics of the practice of Ikebana with a brief history, general techniques, and methodology. It will direct us how to cut a stem, place plant materials in a moribana container and hone artistic view and creative perceptions. Course includes instruction, supplies (container, frog, clippers) and flowers. Course length 1.5- 2 hrs $125 per person. Eileen Kay has been a meditation practitioner and student of Buddhism for over 40 years. She is currently on the Board of Directors of Sogetsu Colorado and chair of the workshop committee. She has been the Chair of Kalapa Ikebana in Boulder, Colorado - dedicated to the study of the contemplative art of kado and is also an active member of Ikebana International Denver Chapter. With more than 25 years of experience, Eileen frequently demonstrates and arranges flowers at Ikebana events and local functions. She has organized, led, and participated in various advanced training workshops over the years and teaches at Naropa University. She was a long-time ikebana student of Sensei Kyoko Kita, founder of Sogetsu Colorado, until her death in September 2010 and continues to practice, teach, and study. Eileen has Somu Rank and Certification awarded from Sogetsu International.
